HUBBARD Worley C. "Hoze" Spain, 82, of Hubbard, died Sunday morning, April 4, 2004, at Northside Medical Center. He was born on March 20, 1922, in Union County, Ohio, a son of Chester H. and Lulu Lugrande Fox Spain and had lived most of his life in Hubbard.
Mr. Spain was a foreman for Conrail Railroad for 43 years, retiring in 1983. He was a graduate of Marion Harding High School, Marion, OH, a member of the First Baptist Church of Hubbard, serving as a Trustee and a member of the Up and Going Class, where he was the Treasurer. He was a life member, past Commander and Chaplain of the Hubbard VFW Post No. 3767 and a 32nd Degree Mason with the Jerusalem Lodge in Hartford, OH. Hoze was a member of the Hubbard Gridiron Club, serving as Treasurer for 13 years, and the Hubbard Christians in Action where he was a Food Bank Volunteer. An avid bowler, bowling in the Stiver Classic and the Spiech Classic Leagues at Bell-Wick Bowl in Hubbard, he was also a member of the VFW Golf League. Mr. Spain served with the United States Navy during World War II.
His first wife, the former Edna Marie Thorpe, whom he married November 1, 1942, died September 28, 1989.
He leaves his wife, Winifred Hyde Tedrow, whom he married November 28, 1992; a son, Douglas D. Spain of Hubbard; step-sons, Ralph (Marge) Tedrow of Gahanna, OH, Tom (Lucille) Tedrow of Davidson, NC, Don (Arlene) Tedrow of Elijay, GA and Jack Tedrow of Hubbard; a daughter, Carol Jane (Gerald) Watson of Lutz, FL; a sister, Aenid Holliday of Orange Park, FL; 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
His parents, three brothers, Charles, Howard, and Chester Spain and a sister, Chloe Neff preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home.
Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
