HUBBARD Wanda L. Merkel, 64 of Hubbard, died Monday morning, June 10, 2002, at her residence following a long illness. She was born June 6, 1938, in Struthers, a daughter of Robert B. and Leona Shaeffer Shilling and had lived in Hubbard for 18 years.

Mrs. Merkel was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 23 years retiring in 1989. She was very devoted to her family and had served as a weather observer with the U.S. Air Force.

She leaves two daughters, Karen J. Merkel and Shirl A. Merkel, both of Hubbard; a brother, Merle Eugene Shilling of Hubbard; two sisters, Shirley Nord of Hubbard and Cindy Thomas of Youngstown; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Two sons, Darryl R. and Darren L. Merkel, three brothers, Robert, Glen and Gary Don Shilling and a sister, Judy Kay Shilling are deceased.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, 5 to 8 PM.
