HUBBARD Walter J. Garbus, 88, died Friday afternoon, October 30, 2009 at Liberty Health Care. He was born December 14, 1920 in Linden, NJ, a son of Frank and Katherine Chromazk Garbus and lived in Hubbard since 1949.
Mr. Garbus was a pipe fitter for Aero Quip Rubber for 37 years before retiring in 1978. He was a member of First Christian Church, Youngstown, the Oak Tree Country Club and AARP. He served with the United States Coast Guard, was an avid reader and enjoyed golfing and model railroading.
His wife, the former June M. Banford, whom he married May 10, 1944, died July 29, 1993.
He leaves a son, Richard W. (Cheryl) Garbus of Niles; a daughter, Valerie J. Allen of Hubbard; a brother, Edward Garbus of Fanwood, NJ; a sister, Helen Socculis of Flemington, NJ; three grandchildren, Denene Ruby McBride, Dani Ruby Burns and Brian (Amanda) Garbus and three great grandchildren, Evan Klepec, Ian and Kayleigh Barton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Adolph Garbus and two sisters, Frances Slovik and Stella Garbus and a son who died in infancy.
Mr. Garbus� family would like to extend a special thanks to all the staff that took care of him at Liberty Health Care.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home.
Family and friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
