HUBBARD Vivian Kathleen "Kate" Marino, 76, went home to be with her Lord Saturday, January 28th following a brief illness. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on October 2, 1929, the daughter of Paul and Gladys McGraw Farley.
Kate retired in the year 2000 as a bus driver for the Hubbard School System after 32 years of driving. She was a beloved member of the Chestnut Ridge Church of God and served as an usher, VBS worker, nursery worker and was active in the church's financial ministry. Through the years she was affectionately known as the "Candy Lady" as she always had treats for the kids and adults.
In her younger days, Kate enjoyed playing softball for the Hubbard Girls semi-pro team, tennis, hunting and boating. In her later years she turned to fishing and golf. In 2004, she was awarded a beautiful plaque for having caught the biggest Northern Pike of the season at Sunlit Bay Resort in North Bay, Canada.
Her husband, Joseph Marino, whom she married on February 2, 1950, passed away on May 16, 1987.
She leaves her friend and companion of 45 years, Sue Burns, with whom she made her home; two daughters, Pam (Ken) Krantz of Youngstown and Kathy (Jim) Budd of Hubbard; five grandchildren, Ellen, Kelly, Karrie, Jamie and Kimberly; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Vaccaro of Silver Spring, MD and Helen Schmidt of Lake Wales, FL and one brother, Paul Farley of Portsmouth, OH.
Besides her husband and parents, her son Joey Marino is deceased having perished on July 3, 1976.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, February 4th at 11:00 am at the Chestnut Ridge Church of God.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
Arrangements were handled by the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home.
