A private military service will take place for Thomas "Tom" Jasen, 71, of Masury and formerly of Hubbard, who passed peacefully at home on, Saturday, October 16, 2015 at 5:00 a.m., after a brief battle with cancer.
Tom was born on August 19, 1944 in Palmer, Massachusetts, the son of John T. and Celinda (Prouty) Jasen and was a 1964 graduate of Hubbard High School.
Tom was veteran of the United States Army and served his country faithfully during the Vietnam War. He entered active duty on January 30, 1929 in Cleveland and served abroad during the war as an aircraft mechanic. He was honorably discharged as Private First Class on January 28, 1966 and received the Armed Forces Expeditary Medal.
Tom worked as a laborer for 35 years with U.S. Steel in Hubbard retiring in 1992. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3767 of Hubbard, Hubbard Wing Snappers and the Brookfield Conservation Club. He had a love for model airplanes, helicopters and boats. He enjoyed motorcross, sprint cars and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Tom is survived by his wife the former Janet Ruth, his mother Celinda Prouty Jasen of Florida, a son Thomas B. (Patti) Jasen of Hubbard; a sister Debra L. Jasen of Warren; two sisters Susan (Jack) Rusbacky of Masury and Judy Jasen of Florida; three grandchildren Tommy Jasen, Stacey (Stephen) Schlit and Brian Lyons; and a great grandson Cullen Schlit.
Tom was preceded in death by his father.
The family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Tom's name to Hospice of the Valley.
A caring cremation will take place under the direction of the Kelly-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home.
