HUBBARD Funeral services will be held on Tuesday September 25, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church with Fr. Frank Zanni officiating for Stanley H. Lipka, 97, who died Tuesday afternoon September 18, 2018 at his home. He was born May 29, 1921 in Owego, NY, a son of Maciej and Marianna Pszenna Lipka and came to Hubbard in 1954 from New York.
Mr. Lipka graduated from Owego High School, served with the United States Navy having been an airplane mechanic and received his Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering at Cleveland State University. He was a member and usher at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Vienna and was a mechanical engineer for 50 years, retiring in 2000. Stanley was a former member of Kiwanis and enjoyed gardening and farming.
His first wife, the former Delores Kalwarski, whom he married June 19, 1948, died April 25, 1987 and his second wife, the former Joann Gergel, whom he married in June 2001, died in October 2013.
He leaves a son, David S. (Joan) Lipka of Chippewa; 4 stepchildren, Julie (David) Hillman, Elizabeth (John) Lammerdine, Christine Gergel and Theresa (John) Torday ; a brother, Tony Lipka of Owego, NY; a sister, Eleanor Cornett of Terry Town, NY; 2 grandchildren, Kelly (Matthew) Onest and Kristen (Tyler) Smith; and 4 great grandchildren.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edward Lipka; 4 sisters, Helen Bebel, Mary Mead, Sophie Karman and Stephie Popeck.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday September 25, 2018, one hour prior to the services from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Vienna.
Interment will be at All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.
Arrangements are being handled by the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home.
