HUBBARD Shirley J. Matas, 71, died Thursday evening at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center. She was born May 21, 1936, in Johnstown, PA, a daughter of Thomas and Helen Reed Stewart and has lived in Hubbard for 50 years.
Mrs. Matas was a homemaker and a member of the Chestnut Ridge Church of God where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and worked in the nursery. She enjoyed crocheting, baking and garage sales but her family came first in her life.
She leaves her husband, Karl Matas Jr., whom she married December 27, 1952; two sons, Thomas C. Matas of Hubbard and Timothy A. (Tina) Matas of Brandon, FL; three daughters, Carol J. (Bernie) Matas of Warren, Barbara A. (Allen) Long of West Middlesex, PA and Tina M. (Marty) Gavalier of Masury; two brothers, Lewis Stewart of North Carolina and Mickey Stewart of Johnstown, PA; two sisters, Gloria Locher and Nancy Shulwater, both of Johnstown, PA; 11 grandchildren, Jamie and Mark Barnhouse, Justin and Jarod Matas, Shannon Long, Brooke, Spencer, Myah and Jaydan Gavalier, Denise and Marina Matas; three great grandchildren, Mark Barnhouse Jr. and Avery and Blake Matas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Carla Barnhouse, a sister, Sissy Darr and a brother, Raymond Stewart.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Chestnut Ridge Church of God, Hubbard.
Family and friends may call at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at church prior to the service.
