HUBBARD Samuel Gonder, Sr., 84, of Hubbard, died on Monday morning, January 1, 2007 at his residence. He was born on August 28, 1922, in Smithmill, PA, a son of George and Mary Wasylko Gonder and lived in Hubbard for over 60 years.
Mr. Gonder worked for GATX in Masury for 30 years, retiring in 1970. He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Hubbard and the VFW Hubbard Post No. 3767. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corps, having served during World War II. Sam enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and canning peppers.
His wife, the former Edith Angelo, whom he married in 1944, died on December 12, 2003.
He leaves two sons, Samuel (Marianne) Gonder, Jr. and David (Cathy) Gonder, both of Hubbard; a daughter, Mary Jane (Gary) Dattilo of Hubbard; two brothers, Andrew Gonder of Masury and Frank Gonder of Tyrone, P A; two sisters, Mary Chomas of Masury and Peg Johnson of Florida; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, his parents, a son, Edward Gonder, six brothers, Mike, George, John, Wasko, Metro and Nick and three sisters, Anna, Eva and Helen, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home in Hubbard, where friends and family may call from 10:00 to 11 :00 a.m. prior to the service.
