HUBBARD Russell A. Thomas, 82, of Hubbard, died Monday evening at Liberty Health Care Center. He was born October 5, 1926 in Hubbard, a son of Howard A. and Effie Mae McFetridge Thomas and was a lifelong Hubbard resident.
Mr. Thomas worked for Youngstown Sheet and Tube, General Office for 33 years and worked for Ohio Fast Freight and Federal Wholesale after retiring.
He was a 70 year member of First Presbyterian Church, Hubbard where he was a former Sunday School Superintendent, Elder, Deacon and a member of the Church Choir.
Russell was a 1944 graduate of Hubbard High School. He served with the United States Navy during World War II, was a member of the Hubbard VFW Post No. 3767, a member of the Youngstown Traffic Club, where he was the secretary for many years, and a member of the Hubbard Volunteer Fire Department for 27 years. Russell was also a member of the Oak Tree Country Club, was an avid golfer and one of his greatest loves was watching his grandchildren in their sporting activities.
He leaves his wife, the former, Margaret "Peg" Daff, whom he married May 1, 1954; a son, Gregory A. Thomas of Hubbard; a daughter, Jane E. (Robert "Smokey") Fedders of Hubbard; a brother, Frederick W. Thomas of Hubbard and three grandchildren, Scott, Amy and Melissa Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son and a brother, Donald Thomas.
Funeral services will be held Saturday 10:15 AM at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home and 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church.
Family and friends may call on Friday 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
