HUBBARD Nicholas E. Novosel, 89, of Hubbard, died Monday evening, April 3, 2006, at Liberty Health Care Center. He was born December 6, 1916, in Youngstown, a son of Edward and Barbara Gunerich Novosel and was a Hubbard resident for over 70 years.
Mr. Novosel worked at Aeroquip Corporation for 44 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Hubbard and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society since 1958 and served as president for 25 years. Nick was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1941 and was honored as the Man of the Year in 1989. He was a member of Hubbard Christians in Action and was the 1995 Hubbard High School Alumni Association Honoree. Nick enjoyed gardening, golf and all sports and was the first person in Hubbard to become a basketball official. He served as a former baseball and basketball coach for St. Patrick School.
His wife, the former Zita M. Choppa, whom he married on July 29, 1939, died on February 4, 2003.
He leaves three sons, Nicholas A. (Jaine) Novosel of Lexington, KY, Dr. Edward J. (Colleen) Novosel of Liberty and Thomas G. Novosel of Boardman; two daughters, Barbara McKenzie of Liberty and Rosemary (Steve) Yaniglos of Boardman; a sister, Barbara Yaksic of Hubbard; 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, his parents, three brothers, Joseph, Ignatz and Mike Novosel, two sisters, Anne Jacobs and Katherine Onestak and a granddaughter, Deborah McKenzie, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, 9:30 a.m. at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home and 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Church in Hubbard.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
