HARTFORD Neva F. "Katie" Thomas, 82, of Hartford, died Friday evening, February 17, 2006, at Sharon Regional Health System. She was born January 27, 1924, in Broadtop City, PA, a daughter of Doyle D. and Olga Brown Black and has been an area resident for over 50 years.
Mrs. Thomas, a homemaker, was a founding member of Victory Christian Center, Lowellville and a member of its Senior Saints. She was affectionately called "Mom Thomas" and known for her hugs and love. Katie was a certified nurse's aide, a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hartford Township Volunteer Fire Department and loved spending time with her family. She was a 1941 graduate of Robertsdale High School, Robertsdale, PA.
She leaves her husband, Lester Thomas, whom she married February 24, 1942; two sons, Pastor David L. (Pastor Kathie) Thomas of Poland and Brian (Becky) Thomas of Hartford; three daughters, Gail (Emery) Johnson of Hubbard, Colleen (Dennis) Currie of Hermitage and Joyce (Bill) Reese of Cortland; two sisters, Joan Glassmyer of Camp Hill, PA and Peggy Thomas of Robertsdale, PA; 23 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.
Her parents, a daughter, Darlene Johnson and four siblings, Zonna Hoover, Orvis Black, Mearle Black and Elwood Black are deceased.
Funeral services will be held 7:00 pm Thursday at the Victory Christian Center where friends may call from 5 to 7 pm.
