HUBBARD Mike Nicora, Jr., 83, of Hubbard, died on Sunday evening, July 20, 2008, at his residence. He was born on February 7, 1925, in Youngstown, a son of Mike and Florence Vantell Nicora Sr. and was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Nicora owned & operated Nicora Construction Company for 46 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Hubbard and served as a Staff Sergeant with the 393rd Combat Engineers Special Service Regiment from 1943-1945 in the U. S. Army during World War II. He built the addition to the Hubbard Post Office, volunteered his carpenter skills at St. Patrick Church and School, built Santa's Workshop for the children of Hubbard, built the very first Phar-Mor Building in Niles and also the others throughout Ohio and Western Pennsylvania District. He was a member and distinguished past President of the Optimist Club.

He leaves his wife, the former Lucille LaCivita, whom he married on March 27, 1946; two sons, Michael (Ann Marie) Nicora of Hubbard and David Nicora (Nancy Longo) of Gates Mills, OH; a daughter, Marilyn Hanley of Hubbard; two brothers-in-law, Chuck (Shirley) LaCivita and Jim LaCivita (Phyllis LaCivita), both of Hubbard; five grandchildren, Staci (Drew) Perman of Hermitage, Brad Nicora of Columbus, Shannon Hanley of West Middlesex, Marcee Hanley and fiancée Shane Keeler of Hubbard, Todd Hanley of Columbus, loving great-granddaughter, Cecilia Ann Perman of Hermitage, several nieces and nephews, his special Army buddy, Mike Lucatra of Niagara Falls and his loving dog, Maddie.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his sisters, Anne Davis and Florence Speich.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, 9:15 a.m. at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home and at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Church in Hubbard.

Family and friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
