Obituary

HUBBARD Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Hubbard for Michael J. Kalman, 85, who died Thursday January 23, 2014 at Sharon Regional Hospital of a heart ailment. He was born January 24, 1929 in Ontario Canada, a son of John and Mary Sopko Kalman. He came to the United States in 1930 and his family settled in Campbell, OH.

Michael graduated from Campbell Memorial High School in 1948 and enlisted in the United States Navy. He was chosen to train as a motion picture technician in Guam. He was put in charge of the film archives for the V.I.P.'s that visited the island. After an honorable discharge, he returned to the states to marry the love of his life, Pauline Knapik on September 16, 1950.

He was a pharmaceutical salesman for Averback Drug Company for 30 years and worked part time for the P & LE Railroad. In his retirement he enjoyed traveling around the U.S. but mostly enjoyed spending time on the beaches of Siesta Key, FL with his children and grandchildren. He along with his wife Pauline was an avid Polka fan.

He was an active member of St. Patrick Parish, serving as an usher for many years and was a dedicated member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association. He will be sadly missed by his high school alumni breakfast group, and his friends at Buhl Health Club and St. Elizabeth's Rehabilitation Unit.

He leaves his children, Mickey (Jeanette) Kalman of Boardman and Mary Kay (Dr. David) DelliQuadri of Poland; five grandchildren, Jon, Jenna, David and Daniel Kalman and David Angelo DelliQuadri. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren's Yorkie, "Emmy". He also leaves his four sisters, Mary Ann Johns of California, Ann Warrenburg of Cincinnati, Helen Mayorga and Julia Kalman of Youngstown and a brother, Thomas Kalman of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Pauline Knapik Kalman, who died August 21, 2012.

Family and friends may call on Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the staff of Sharon Regional Hospital, 5th and 6th floors for their care and support.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Patrick Church, 225 North Main St., Hubbard, OH 44425.

Interment will be at Hubbard Union Cemetery.
