HUBBARD Major Donald N. Thomas, USMC (Ret.), 71, of Hubbard, died Friday afternoon, December 20, 2002, at his home. He was born April 26, 1931, in Elkhart, IN, a son of Robert and Margaret Norris Thomas and had lived in Hubbard for 36 years.
Major Thomas enlisted in the Marines in 1950 and participated in both the Korean War and the Viet Nam War. He was decorated with the Bronze Star Medal for his service in Viet Nam. He retired in 1970.
After he retired from the Marine Corps, he was employed as a terminal supervisor and purchasing manager for Ryder Truck Lines. He was also a member of the staff of the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home.
He was a life member of the Retired Officers Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3767 of Hubbard and also a member of the Conneaut Boat Club, Conneaut, OH. Major Thomas enjoyed antique tractors and was a member and officer of the Allis Chalmers Antique Tractor Club. He enjoyed boating and hunting.
He leaves his wife, the former Marilyn Smelko; a son, David L. and his wife Antoinette of Jefferson, OH; two sisters, Carol Staples of Mauldin, SC and Jean Bearquiver of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Kayla and Jordan Lee and step grandchildren Colin, Cameron and Cristian. A brother, Robert Thomas, and his parents are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home with Rev. L. Frank Willoughby and Capt. Allen Morrison, USMC (ret) officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, 3 to 6 PM.
