LIBERTY TWP Lola B. Stewart, 96, of Liberty Twp., died Thursday morning, June 24, 2004, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. She was born July 18, 1907, in Sumner, TX, a daughter of Charles and Minnie Davidson Briggle, moving to Liberty Twp. 3 years ago from Paris, TX.
Mrs. Stewart was a homemaker and a former schoolteacher in a one-room schoolhouse in Garrets Bluff, TX. She was a member of Oak Park Methodist Church in Paris, TX and attended First Presbyterian Church of Hubbard. In addition to playing dominoes, she loved sports, especially basketball and played on her high school basketball team in Sumner, TX. She was also well known for her pie baking.
Her husband, Alton Stewart, whom she married October 20, 1929, died January 1, 1992.
She leaves a son, Rev. Larry (Ann) Stewart of Liberty; a brother, Robbie Briggle of Paris, TX; two sisters, Faye Everett of Paris, TX and Vera Wright of Robstown, TX; two grandchildren, Lee Ann (Steven) Daigle of Rochester, NY and Amy (Rev. Mark) Carpenter of Wheatley, AR; three great-grandchildren, Hannah and James Carpenter of Wheatley, AR and Julia Daigle of Rochester, NY.
Besides her husband, her parents, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
There are no calling hours or funeral services.
