HUBBARD Joseph "Buckeye" J. Petrek, 74, of Hubbard, died Friday afternoon, June 18, 2004, at his residence. He was born July 15, 1929, in Hubbard, a son of John and Johanna Duncko Petrek and was a life long Hubbard resident.
Mr. Petrek owned and operated Buckeye Tack Lumber in Hubbard for 50 years. He was a member of St. Patrick Church, Hubbard, Knights of Columbus Msgr. Francis J. Hughes Council No. 2072, Saxon Club where he was a sponsor and team member of the bocce and golf leagues, Home Builders Association, Hubbard Chamber of Commerce and Past President of the Optimist Club. He graduated from Hubbard High School in 1947 and served with the Army during the Korean War. In addition to having his private pilots license, he enjoyed golf, bocce, bowling, boating and spending time with his family and friends at Lake Milton. Joe also enjoyed polka parties and riding his motorcycle.
He leaves his wife, the former Joann Slavkosky, whom he married November 7, 1953; a son, Joseph J. Petrek of Hubbard; three daughters, Joyce (Dr. Michael) Markel of Canton, Janet (Carmen, Jr.) Chicone of North Lima and Jayne (Gene) Pavia of Hubbard; one brother, Frank Petrek of Hubbard; seven grandchildren.
His parents, a brother, John Petrek and a sister, Mary Dohallow preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home and 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Church.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
