John Mcconnell's Obituary
GIRARD John Robert McConnell, 65, died Thursday December 12, 2013 at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center. He was born September 25, 1948 in Sharon, PA a son of John Warren and Viola Barnhart McConnell and grew up in Hartford.
Mr. McConnell graduated from Badger High School and was of the Methodist faith. He served with the United States Army during Vietnam with the 82nd Airborne Division. John received numerous medals while serving, including the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
John was a member of the Girard and Vienna VFW; the American Legion in Girard, AMVETS and the Girard Optimist Club. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, NASCAR and loved baseball and football, especially the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes.
John leaves a son, John Eric McConnell of Hubbard; two sisters, Marge McConnell of Cornelius, NC and Susan (Jim) Lushine of Pembroke Pines, FL and a granddaughter, Kayley Denise McConnell of Girard.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home in Hubbard.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday 10:30 AM at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home.
Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Hermitage with full military honors by the Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard Post No. 540.
