HUBBARD Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 9:30 AM at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home and at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Church, for John T. Matovina, 79 of 246 West Park Ave. who died Saturday morning at St. Elizabeth Hospital following a short illness. He was born September 21, 1921, in Coalburg, OH, a son of Mathew and Mary Sertic Matovina and was a life long Hubbard resident.
Mr. Matovina worked in the security department at Northside Medical Center for 10 years retiring in 1987. Prior to this he worked for the former Oldberg Muffler, Youngstown, for 19 years. He was a member of St. Patrick Church where he served as an usher for over 25 years and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hubbard Post 3767; a 1940 graduate of Hubbard High School and enjoyed golfing and baseball. He served as a flight engineer with the Army Air Corps, 748th Bomb Squadron in World War II and received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters.
He leaves his wife, the former Ursula McIntee, whom he married January 11, 1947; a son William J. Matovina of Hubbard; two grandchildren and one great grandchild. Three brothers, Michael, Thomas and Peter Matovina and two sisters, Barbara and Ann Matovina are deceased.
Friends may call at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home on Monday, 5 to 8 PM.
Burial will be in Hubbard Union Cemetery.
