Obituary


HUBBARD John J. Glod, 90, of Hubbard, died Saturday afternoon, August 28, 2004, at Liberty Health Care Center. He was born October 7, 1913, in Webster, PA, a son of Frank and Anna Leshnak Glod and had lived in Hubbard since 1940.

Mr. Glod was educated at the University of Pittsburgh and during World War II worked for Westinghouse Electric Corp., Sharon, PA, as an industrial engineer in their defense department. He built the first modern gas station in Hubbard in 1941 and owned and operated Glod's Uptown Gulf Service Station for many years retiring in 1977.

He was a member and past president of the Independent Gasoline Dealers Association and member of St. Patrick Church, Hubbard, where he was very active in the bingo program. John was involved in Hubbard politics and had served as City Treasurer and Service Manager. While serving as Service Manager he was instrumental in modernizing Hubbard's electrical system and was a co-founder of Amp Ohio, an electricity purchasing co-op. He was a former member of the Hubbard Kiwanis Club.

His wife of 65 years, the former Mary E. Robb, died May 24, 2000. He leaves four sons, John "Jack" W. (Shirley) Glod of Hartford, OH, Dr. Edward F. (Donatella) Glod of St. Charles, IL, Charles W. (Rosemary) Glod of Hubbard and Robert E. (Marsha) Glod of Pittsburgh, PA; two sisters, Charlotte Simons of Mt. Lebanon, PA and Agnes Lindaur of Whitehall, PA; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Walter Glod killed in World War II and three sisters, Mary Catherine Teese, Adele Zacharov and Ann Sinclair.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 9:15 AM at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home and at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Church.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM.
