John Joseph Flen, 55, passed away at his home on June 15, 2015.
He was born on Aug. 11, 1959, in Youngstown, a son of Peter and Lillian Osesky Flen (Furdyczka), and was a lifelong Hubbard resident.
He will be dearly missed by his family, his wife, the former Joan Martin, whom he married Feb. 27, 1993; his son, Colton; daughter Briannia; and his sisters, Linda (John) Bosela of Boardman and Donna (Jeff) Bosela of Hubbard; as well as his nephews, Dylan and Ryan; and a niece, Dana. Also left to cherish his memory are his many friends and also dear to him were two girls close to his heart, Monica Rose and Dr. Michelle Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Jeremy.
John was a 1977 graduate of Hubbard High School. He was known to be a hard worker all of his life. He was devoted to helping his father on the family farm where he learned to make specialty meats, work the fields, and care for many animals.
He was a welder at Youngstown Steel Tank before starting his own business called Always Best Construction. Then, for many years, he owned and operated A.B. Crane. Most recently, he worked for Local Union No. 66.
He always enjoyed taking the time to talk to people, share stories and get to know them. His friends, who affectionately called him "John Boy," would often come to help him on the farm or on a job, where together, they created many unforgettable memories.
He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and hunting, having had one especially memorable trip to hunt moose in Newfoundland.
He loved spending time with his wife and children, taking them to parks and zoos and watching his kids grow.
In recent years, he helped care for his mother, who was especially dear to him, because he shared her kind and gentle soul.
There will be a visitation, on Friday, June 19, 2015, at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home in Hubbard, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.
