HUBBARD John J. "Cut" Carano, Sr., 81, of Hubbard, died Wednesday evening, March 2, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He was born April 22, 1923, in Hubbard, a son of Joseph A. and Clementine Madeline Carano and was a lifelong Hubbard resident.
Mr. Carano owned and operated Mattinat Cleaners in Hubbard for 12 years and was the Harding Park Superintendent for 10 years. Prior to this he was a welder for General American Transportation in Masury for 20 years. John was a member of St. Bernadette's Church in Masury, St. Vincent de Paul Society, American Legion Post 51 and a member of the former Owls' Club, Hubbard. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. Cut was an avid sportsman, enjoying fishing, hunting and golfing.
He leaves his wife, the former Theresa Rose Mattinat, whom he married September 24, 1949; a son, John J. (Teresa) Carano, Jr. of Dublin, OH; a daughter, Juliana C. (Carl) Swabek of Cincinnati; a brother, Albert F. (Ruth) Carano of Hubbard; five grandchildren, Carolyn, Stephen and Paul Swabek and Celeste and Monica Carano.
His parents preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, 10:15 a.m. at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home and at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette's Church in Masury.
Friends may call from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
