HUBBARD Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 PM at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Swierz officiating for Joann Petrek, 88, who died Friday afternoon September 16, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital. She was born January 7, 1928 in Niles, a daughter of Steve and Helen Krajnak Slavkovsky and was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Petrek, a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, owned and operated Buckeye Tack Lumber in Hubbard with her husband for over 50 years. She was a member of the Optimisses Club and the Saxon Club. Joann enjoyed baking, going to the cabin at Lake Milton and casinos. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandkids and great grandkids. Her husband, Joseph "Buckeye" Petrek, whom she married November 7, 1953, died June 18, 2004. She leaves a son, Joseph J. Petrek Jr. of Hubbard; two daughters, Joyce (Dr. Michael) Markel of Canton and Jayne (Gene) Pavia of Hubbard; a brother, John (Theresa) Slovasky of Girard; a sister, Mary Lou (Bill) Luzar of Niles; a son-in-law, Carmen Chicone Jr.; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Joann was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Janet Chicone; three brothers, Frank Slovasky, Steve Slavhovsky and Raymond Slavokovsky. Family and friends may call on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the funeral services on Tuesday from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of Joann's caregivers for the loving care she received. Interment will be at Hubbard Union Cemetery.
