HUBBARD Joan M. "Joanie" DeVaney, 75, of Hubbard, died Thursday morning, March 20, 2003 at her home. She was born April 21, 1927 in Detroit, MI, a daughter of Arthur H. and Merrian Mackey Hughes and moved to Hubbard in 1974, coming from Lanham, MD.
Mrs. DeVaney was the Head Nurse of the Maternity Ward at Providence Hospital, Washington, D.C., where she received her nursing degree in 1948. She also worked for Dr. Fingian in Silver Spring, MD. She was a member of the St. Patrick Church, Hubbard where she was very active serving as Youth Minister for several years, Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Sacristan, RCIA teacher and a member of the Legion of Mary. Joanie also attended Catholic University of America and volunteered taking blood pressure readings at the Senior Citizens Center for several years.
She leaves her husband, Victor F. DeVaney, whom she married November 26, 1955; a son, Arthur J. (Barbara) DeVaney of Presque Isle, ME; a brother, James A. Hughes of Hobe Sound, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, William Hughes and a twin sister, Jane Hughes.
Funeral services will be held Monday, 6:00 PM at St. Patrick Church, Hubbard.
Friends may call on Monday 2 hours prior to the service, 4 to 6 PM, at St. Patrick Church, Hubbard.
Arrangements are being handled by the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home, Hubbard.
