HUBBARD Joan Eileen Beck, 77, died Thursday morning, November 5, 2009, at Liberty Health Care. She was born September 4, 1932 in Girard, a daughter of William E. Sr. and Frances Marie Swift O'Connell and was a life long area resident. A homemaker, Mrs. Beck had formerly worked as a key punch operator for McKelvey's Department Store and Ohio Leather.
She was a member of St. Patrick Church, Hubbard since 1954, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Women's Cursillo. She did volunteer work for the American Red Cross and at Northside Medical Center. She attended St. Rose Elementary School, graduated from Girard High School in 1950 and furthered her education by taking computer classes at Youngstown State University. Joan had a deep Catholic faith and saw that her five children had a Catholic education at St. Patrick School in Hubbard.
Her husband, Donald M. Beck, whom she married May 21, 1954, died May 15, 1967. She leaves two sons, Brian J. (Mary) Beck of Youngstown and Kerry S. (Lynne) Beck of Hubbard; two daughters, Donna Mahoney of Hubbard and Erin Mary (Joseph) Angelo of Canfield; her adored sister, C. Norene O'Connell of Girard; a sister in law, Joyce McAllister O'Connell of Girard;11 grandchildren, Tommy and Joe Mahoney, Julia, Brian Jr. "BJ" Beck, Katin, Sydney, Madison and Trey Angelo, Jenifer, David and Ian Haynes and a great grandchild, Avalon Rose Maywhort.
She was preceded in death by a beloved son, Kelly John Beck, with whom she made her home, who died October 16, 2009, an infant daughter, Ann Beck and her husband.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, three brothers, William E. O'Connell Jr., James F. O'Connell and infant John, two sisters, Ann Rita "Nancy" Prevosnak and Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Scott.
Funeral services will be held Monday, 9:15 am at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home and at 10:00 am at St. Patrick Church.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 to 6 pm.
