Mr. Marks was born March 19, 1931, in Farrell, a son of Frank and Mary (Esposito) Marks – owners of the well-known Marks Grocery on Roemer Blvd.
Jerry is a 1949 graduate of Farrell High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a focus on Art from Youngstown College (now Youngstown State University) in 1955, and a Master of Science in Education in 1960. He then served with the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1962.
He obtained a position as an art teacher in the Farrell Area School District in 1955 where he was employed for 38 years and retired in 1993.
He met his wife, Dolores Zurawick, through relatives and they were married on June 26, 1965. They had three children, Cheryl, Randall "Randy", and Wayne, and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
He enjoyed playing tennis at Buhl Park in Hermitage and enjoyed giving lessons to students while attending college and teaching his own children the sport. After he started work as an art teacher, he took an interest in woodworking with a focus on creating contemporary animal sculptures. He enjoyed spending time with family and attending music events with performances by his favorite Italian crooners.
Jerry was a member of St. Bernadette's Church in Masury and St. Patrick Church in Hubbard.
