HUBBARD James L. Schotten, 66, of Hubbard, died Wednesday afternoon, September 21, 2005, at Northside Medical Center. He was born May 10, 1939, in Hubbard, a son of Lee and Hazel Robison Schotten.
Mr. Schotten worked for the State of Ohio, Department of Corrections for 30 years, most recently serving as the warden at the Trumbull Correctional Institute in Warren for four years. Prior to this he served at institutions in Lebanon, Lucasville and Marysville. After retiring in 1996, he worked for the Columbiana County Jail for two years.
Jim was a member of the Hubbard Church of the Nazarene, a graduate of Xavier University with a master's degree in corrections and had served an instructor in Corrections Graduate Program at Xavier in the 1960's. He was past president of the Ohio Correctional and Court Services and was a member of the Ohio Horseshoe Pitchers Association, the Hubbard Optimist Club, the Saxon Club, the Ohio Probation Parole Association and the American Correctional Association. Jim enjoyed music, playing horseshoes and working with his John Deere tractor.
He leaves his wife, the former Nancy F. Leach, whom he married August 27, 1960; a son Douglas Lee Schotten of Dallas, TX; a daughter, Donna Lynne Schotten of Columbus; two brothers, Wayne Schotten of San Francisco and Ray (Linda) Schotten of Hubbard and a sister, Kay (Ernie) Cunningham of Hubbard.
His parents preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home in Hubbard.
Friends may call from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
