HUBBARD Homer J. Smith, 71, died Saturday morning June 11, 2011 at his home. He was born April 23, 1940 in West Middlesex, a son of Anthony Bradley and Willa Mae Swint Smith and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Smith was a general foreman for Delphi Packard for 32 years. He graduated from West Middlesex High School in 1958, served with the United States Army and graduated from Youngstown State University in 1974. Homer was a member of the Hubbard Gridiron Club, the VFW Post No. 6488 and past supporter of the HCYL. He loved to play golf, having golfed in many leagues and his favorite was the VFW League at Donnybrook Golf Course.
He leaves his wife, the former Charlotte R. Diehl, whom he married July 27, 1968; five sons, Chad Smith and Brad Smith both of Hubbard, Anthony Smith of Atlanta, GA, Donnie Smith and Matthew (Melissa) Smith both of Hubbard; a brother, Anthony B. (Linda) Smith of Sharpsville, PA; three sisters, Myrtle (Frank) Davis of Youngstown, Wanda King of Brookfield and Janice Kelley of West Middlesex; six grandchildren, Athena, Julian, Davion, Christopher, Ariana and Isaac.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patricia Coleman.
Funeral services will be held Friday 4:00 PM at the Chestnut Ridge Church of God with Pastor Rob McFarland and the Rev. Donald "Soupy" Campbell officiating.
