Helen Louise Tracy (Grammy), 93, of Gilbert Arizona, passed on Sunday, October 19, 2014. Helen Louise was born at home on November 2, 1920 to Harold and Louise M. (Mama Louise) Rower in Kalida, Ohio. She and her brother, Dr. William Rower, met with tragedy early in life when their father died in a fire when their home burned down. However, Helen Louise had a full and rich life in Ohio, Florida, and Arizona.
Helen Louise met her future husband, Robert L. Tracy, while attending Nursing School in Columbus, Ohio. They married on November 10, 1939, moved to Hubbard, Ohio and had two children. Thomas R. Tracy of Hubbard and Linda L. Steiner of Gilbert, Az. She was secretary for 19 years to Dr. Charles Allison Weed, Author and Pastor of Hubbard Baptist Church, and, along with her husband, a church youth leader for 10 years. She enjoyed helping newcomers to Hubbard Ohio as a Welcome Wagon Hostess for 17 years and was a life member of Eastern Star, Miriam Chapter #278.
She continued being active and involved in life and living after retirement. Helen Louise and Robert began traveling extensively, especially into Mexico. She began organizing and coordinating Airstream caravans into Central America and excelled at this for 10 years. After her husband died in 1993 she became a Docent for Flagler Museum in Palm Beach Florida for 10 years and was chosen 'Docent of the Year' in 1996.
She leaves her children; Thomas R. Tracy of Hubbard and Linda L. Steiner of Gilbert, Arizona; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Two family gathering for sharing memories of 'Grammy ' will be held; one in Gilbert, Arizona and one in Hubbard, Ohio. Interment will be at Hubbard Union Cemetery.
