HUBBARD Helen C. Ponzio, 84, of Hubbard, died on Friday morning, March 9, 2007, at Liberty Health Care Center. She was born on December 2, 1922, in Farrell, PA, a daughter of William and Katherine Zangoff Christoff and lived in Hubbard since 1947.

Mrs. Ponzio, a homemaker, worked for Hubbard High School for 9 years, retiring in 1978. Previously she worked for Penn Power and Carnegie-Illinois Steel Co. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hubbard and its Women's Association, the Hubbard Junior Garden Club, the Hubbard Historical Society and a former active member of the PTA. Helen was a 1942 graduate of Youngstown College.

She leaves her husband, Anthony T. Ponzio, whom she married on June 28, 1945; a son, Alan A. (Debbi) Ponzio of Maumee, OH; a daughter, Phyllis D. (Arthur) Kourian of Hubbard; a brother, George Christoff of Hermitage, PA; five grandchildren, Courtney (Geoff) Helmlinger, Elizabeth (Brent) Borgelt, Amanda (Shawn) Marcello, Katherine Ponzio and Sarah Kourian and four great-grandchildren, Adam and Abbey Ponzio and Avery and Ashton Borgelt.

Her parents and three sisters, Mary Yourga, Lillian Ellia and Julie Strimbu, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home in Hubbard.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
