Hazel Andrews Reed of Summerfield Retirement Residence, Bradenton, Florida died November 26, 2003. She was born October 28, 1903, a daughter of George R. and Clara McCown Andrews. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday. Although she had lived many places, she maintained her membership in the Enon Valley United Presbyterian Church.
She was a retired teacher, having taught both in Pennsylvania and New York states for a total of 37 years. She was a graduate of Slippery Rock Normal School, Penn State University and received her Master's Degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
She was a member of the Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association, the New York State Retired Teachers Association and A.A.R.P.
After joining the WAAC in 1942, she received training in physical therapy at the University of Wisconsin and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. She served a total of three years.
Hazel was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Colman Quinn, and also by her second husband, James M. Reed. In addition, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Magale, and her brother, Arthur Andrews.
Survivors are four nieces and nephews: Thomas Liston, Dailey, West Virginia; Gerald Liston, Wadsworth, Ohio; Sue Kelley, Hubbard, Ohio; and Janet Moslener, Pennington, New Jersey.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held in the Enon Valley United Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 22, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. Following the memorial service, a luncheon for family and friends will be held in the Social Room of the church.
Interment will be in Little Beaver Cemetery, Enon Valley, Pennsylvania.
Memorials may be given to Enon Valley United Presbyterian Church or to the donor's choice of charity.
