HUBBARD Harold L. Powell, Jr., 75, of Hubbard, went home to be with the Lord, on Tuesday evening, January 8, 2008, at Forum Health Northside Medical Center, from complications arising from cancer, with his family at his side. He was born on September 6, 1932, in Youngstown, a son of Harold L. Sr. and Marion Inglis Powell, coming to Hubbard in 1959.
Mr. Powell was vice president of Powell Pressed Steel and co-owner and operator of the Hubbard Golf Course, Inc., both in Hubbard. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hubbard, where he was a Sunday school teacher, choir member and a delegate to the Annual Conference. Harold was a graduate of the Rayen School and Youngstown State University and was a member of the Youngstown Philharmonic Chorus. He served on the Board of Directors and was Chairman of the Board for 10 years at The Bair Foundation. He was a U. S. Army veteran, where he was a ping-pong champion. Harold enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, tennis and bowling.
He leaves his wife, the former Kay M. Mergler, whom he married on June 6, 1959; a son, Gregory R. (Olivia) Powell of Hubbard; a daughter, Cynthia K. (Jim) Bullock of Hubbard; a brother, William R. Powell of Hubbard and 6 grandchildren, Andrew Bullock, Kelly Bullock, John Bullock, Adria Powell and twin grandsons, Isaac Powell and Chase Powell.
His parents preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the First United Methodist Church of Hubbard.
Family and friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home in Hubbard and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the church, prior to the service.
