HUBBARD Private funeral services were held for Gordon Emerson Tobey, 83, who died Thursday morning February 23, 2017 at Northside Hospital. He was born September 8, 1933 at home in Hubbard, a son of Gordon Ellsworth and Edith Toner Tobey and was a lifelong Hubbard resident.

Mr. Tobey, a 1952 graduate of Hubbard High School, served with the United States Navy. He was a machinist at Wean United for 36 years, retiring in 1992 and also was a volunteer fireman for the Hubbard Fire Department for 17 years. Gordon was a member of the Hubbard American Legion Post No. 51, enjoyed woodworking and loved his family, especially his granddaughters and great grandson.

He leaves his wife, the former Phyllis V. Pierson, whom he married September 15, 1956; two sons, Curtis (Joni) Tobey and Eric Tobey, both of Hubbard; two brothers, Jerome (Dorothy) Tobey and Arthur (Peggy) Tobey both of Hubbard; two granddaughters, Emily (Justin) Morgan of Rock Hill, SC and Rachel (Fiancé Brian Logan) Tobey of Hubbard and one great grandson, Jase Morgan.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents.
