HUBBARD George L. Singer, Jr., 83, of Hubbard, died Friday morning, March 31, 2006, at Northside Medical Center. He was born January 5, 1923, in DuBois, PA, a son of George and Olive Dolby Singer and lived most of his life in this area.
Mr. Singer worked for General Fireproofing Corp. for 34 years retiring in 1981. After retirement, he worked for Rogers Lumber for two years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hubbard, where he was a former trustee, and a member of the American Legion Post 51 of Hubbard. George was an avid golfer, bowler and a member of The Happy Wanderers. He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving aboard the USS Wickes 578.
His first wife, the former Dorothy Burnett, whom he married in 1946, died in 1974. He leaves his second wife, the former Lois R. Himes, whom he married April 18, 1975. He leaves a son, Thomas (Patricia) Singer of Leetonia; four brothers, Lloyd Singer of Naples, FL, Donald Singer of Tampa, FL, Charles Singer of Sandusky, OH and Larry Singer of Hubbard; two sisters, Iris Johnson of Hubbard and Thelma Dawson of Raleigh, NC; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and two very special children, Samantha and Michalia.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a son, Daniel Lee Singer and two sisters, Betty McKee and Margurite Traxler.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home.
