Obituary


MASURY Mr. George R. Popa, 79, of Masury, died Monday evening, August 5, 2002 at Sharon Regional Health System. He was born October 1, 1922 in Hubbard, a son of John and Lillian Wells Popa and was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Popa worked for Powell Pressed Steel, Hubbard for 42 years before retiring in 1982 as a foreman. He was a member of St. John Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Sharon, PA, where he was a Sunday School teacher and a pirogi worker. He served with the United States Marine Corps during World War II and was a member of the 1st Marine Division Association and the Romanian Veterans Association. Mr. Popa's family was very important to him and he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening and doing yard work.

He leaves his wife, the former, Catherine Sitch, whom he married June 7, 1947; a son, Robert C. Popa of Masury; a daughter, Donna J. (David) Ferrara of Masury; two brothers, Albert Popa of Masury and Rev. William Popa of Wadsworth, OH; two sisters, Sally Shaffer of Charlotte, NC and Lillian Begeot of Hubbard; seven grandchildren and a great granddaughter. A brother, John Popa and a sister Mary Jane Popa are deceased.

Funeral services will be held Friday, 10:00 AM at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home, Hubbard and 11:00 AM at St. John Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Sharon, PA.

Friends may call at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home on Thursday, 5 to 8 PM with a memorial prayer service to be held at 6:00 PM.
