Obituary

An Order of Christian Burial Service will be offered at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2015 in the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home, for George S. Hovanec, 77, of Hubbard, who passed away at 10:00 p.m. Friday, October 16, 2015 at Vibra Hospital in Boardman following a long illness. George was born at home in Hubbard on April 15, 1938, the only son of the late Steven and Julianna (Forenchak) Hovanec and was a lifelong area resident. A 1956 graduate of Hubbard High School, George enlisted in the United States Army serving as a tank mechanic. George retired on October 1, 1992 from the United States Postal Service, where he served the residents of Hubbard as a mail carrier for 36 years, a job that he was very proud of. George was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed bowling. He was a member of the American Bowling Congress and participated in many tournaments across the country. He was a member of several bowling leagues. George was married to the former Mary Ann Yurcisin on May 2, 1959 and they were married for 40 years until her passing on October 9, 1999. A loving, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, George will be missed by two children Marc (Lorie) Hovanec and Diane (Alan) Beem all of Hubbard, three grandsons, Marc Hovanec Jr., Alan Beem Jr., and Michael Beem; and three great grandchildren Valerie and Aedan Shamblin and Gabbie Beem. Besides his parents and wife, Mary Ann, George was preceded in death by a sister Irene Hirgelt. Family will receive friends TODAY, October 19, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Hubbard Union Cemetery.
