HUBBARD George R. Hiland, 82, of Hubbard, died Saturday morning, March 25, 2006 at Northside Medical Center. He was born December 7, 1923, in Hebron, IN, a son of John and Catherine Cole Hiland and lived in Hubbard since 1968, coming from Gary, IN.
Mr. Hiland was a supervisor for General American Transportation Corporation for 35 years, retiring in 1982. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. George was of the Protestant faith and enjoyed gardening, bowling, sports and was a Chicago Cubs' fan.
He leaves his wife, the former Victoria C. "Vickie" Remkus, whom he married on August 11, 1947; two daughters, Karen K. Campbell of New Albany, IN and Patricia A. (Dr. Michael) Simonsic of Berlin Center; three sisters, Mabel Cooper of IL, Lucile Ott of WA and Zora King of Lakeland, FL; two grandchildren, Kimberly Wall of New Albany, IN and T.R. Campbell of Shelbyville, IN; a great-grandchild, Tyler Wall of New Albany, IN and three special children in George and Vickie's life, George, Stephanie and Cynthia.
His parents, a son, Richard Allen Hiland, who died in infancy, and three brothers, Lewis, Aloysius and Paul Hiland, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home in Hubbard.
Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
