COITSVILLE – The Pearly Gates of Heaven opened on Friday, March 7, 2014 to welcome Frances Lee (Teeters) Saska Whitlow, 76, formerly of Hubbard, who died at Valley Care Northside Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born July 22, 1937, in Trenton, Nebraska, a daughter of the late Francis M. and Patricia Marie Rose Teeters. She truly was a business woman extraordinaire, owning a restaurant, convenient store, bar, real estate and a farm over the course of her life. It was often said that anything she touches turns to gold. She had a million dollar smile that could soften the heart of even the most unruly teen. Her most important "job" in life was as mother, grandmother and foster mother to many, many, children in the Tri-county region. She was best known as 'Grandma Frances" and genuinely loved children. She could be spotted at any given time, having a van full of children, and frequented the Dairy Queens, Idora Park, Cedar Point, Sea World and Disney World. She was a kind, generous, loving woman who opened her home to anyone in need, but especially children. She changed the lives of many people, who were fortunate enough to cross her path. She enjoyed crocheting, flea-marketing, cooking, traveling, but most of all a child's arms around her neck made her happiest.
She married the "love of her life" Stephen W. Saska in Garden Grove, California and unto this union three children were born. She leaves to cherish her memory a son Stephen W. (Jacqueline White) Saska of Austin, Texas, daughters, Theresa (Kent) Lyons, Coitsville, and Rebecca (the late Bill) Broxson, Howland, siblings James (Shirley) Teeters, Yuma, Arizona, and Sally (Ken) Canion, Friendswood, Texas. One of the greatest "gifts" she ever received was her first born grandchild, Tressa Rebecca Scahill, born on her birthday, followed by four more wonderful grandchildren, William Henry (Brock) Broxson IV, Kelsie Marie Scahill, Megan Marie Broxson and Mary Frances Lyons. She also cherished Marci (Seabolt) Haught, Pakersburg, W. VA., whom she reared as her "first" grandchild, for many years. She leaves many nieces, nephews, and friends, and her dog Toby.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Marvin Teeters, Arda Krepcik and Ida Ekberg, a niece Paula (Ekberg) Fierstein, a nephew Rodney Ekberg and a son-in-law, William H. "Bill" Broxson III.
Frances' family would like to express their appreciation to their friend and longtime caregiver Robert "Gene" Stewart, her friend and physician Dr. Michael Schulz, and the exceptional staff at Valley Care Northside Hospital.
Friends and family may call on Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 5:00-6:00 at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home.
Memorial Services will be held Thursday at 6:00 PM at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home.
