HUBBARD Evelyn R. "Evie" Blackwell, 87, died Sunday morning May 10, 2015 at Tidewell Hospice in Sarasota, FL. She was born July 5, 1927 in Youngstown, a daughter of William H. and Ivabelle Strayer Axeleson and was a lifelong area resident.

Mrs. Blackwell, a graduate of South High School was a member of the Belladonnas and attended The Ohio State University majoring in Physical Education. She was the assistant to Sam Gould at the Mahoning County Engineers Office, was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hubbard. Evie was a member of the Hubbard Jr. Garden Club, Spring Hills Club, Hubbard Women's Golf League and the Young Towners Club.

Evie enjoyed gardening, yard work, golfing, boating and listening to Music on Madison. She loved spending her summers on Cape Cod and The Jersey Shore, her annual trip to Florida and spending time with her lovely family and friends.

Her husband Joseph W. Blackwell, who she married December 27, 1946, died December 4, 1996.

She leaves two sons, Thomas Blackwell of Titusville, PA and Joseph Blackwell of Gibsonburg, OH; two daughters, Sally Blackwell of Sarasota, FL and Nancy Blackwell of Hilliard, OH; a brother, William (Ruth) Axelson of Canfield, OH; two granddaughters, Alexis and Samantha Blackwell. She also leaves her dog and faithful companion, Hobo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lois Jean Adams.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at noon at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home.

Family and friends may call two hours prior to the funeral services from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home.

Burial will be at Hubbard Union Cemetery.
