YOUNGSTOWN Elmore Rice McNeal, MD, 93, of Youngstown, died Wednesday morning, December 31, 2008, at Northside Hospital Medical Center. He was born May 13, 1915 in Flushing, OH a son of Rudolph W. and Gladys Rice McNeal and came to this area in 1948.
Dr. McNeal was a self employed physician from 1948-1980 retiring from the Western Reserve Care System. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and served with the United States Navy during World War II, serving two years in Guadalcanal.
He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1937, attended the Western Reserve Medical School in Cleveland from 1937-1941, served his internship at University Hospital in Cleveland in 1942 and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Crile Veterans Hospital. Dr. McNeal was a retired member of the Mahoning County Medical Society, a member of the Ohio State Medical Association and the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Elmore was a member of the Mahoning Saddle and Bridle Club, chairman of the Youngstown Charity Horse Show and a life member of the Elks Club BPOE No. 55. He was also an avid gardener and enjoyed bowling.
His wife, the former, Geraldine Arnold, whom he married October 11, 1941, died June 16, 2005.
He leaves a daughter, Penny McNeal of Hudson, two grandchildren, Brooke and Ross and one great grandchild, Cash.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Harriett M. Wolfe.
