HUBBARD Private funeral services were held Monday morning at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home for Edward L. Smelko Sr., 70 of 3358 Schotten Rd. who died of cancer Friday evening at his home.
He was born January 14, 1930 in Hubbard, a son of Albert and Christina Fedders Smelko and was a lifelong Hubbard resident.
Mr. Smelko was a welder for LTV Steel for 22 years before retiring in 1979. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, an avid outdoorsman and a skilled craftsman working with wood and metal.
He leaves his wife, the former Mary A. Briody whom he married July 7, 1951; two sons, Edward Smelko Jr. of Chassahowitzka, FL and Alan Smelko of Brooksville, FL; a daughter, Carolyn Blasko of New Middletown, OH and a brother, Albert Smelko of Helena, MT; nine grandchildren. Three sisters, Martha Dufford, Elizabeth Todut and Vivien Oyler, two brothers, Robert and Sylvester Smelko are deceased.
