HUBBARD Mr. Edward Richard Hlas Sr., age 73, died Monday at home. He was born February 12, 1929 in Hubbard. Ed was the son of Anna Stavyarsky and Paul Hlas Sr. He was survived by his wife of 48 years, Lucille Javorsky-Hlas and four children; Edward Hlas Jr. & wife Kim of Howland, Lucille McHugh & husban Mark of Austintown, Ruth Ann Dunkerly & husband Brian formerly of Hubbard, Elizabeth Getz & husband Jim of Liberty Township, and ten grandchildren.
He leaves four sisters, Marge Tomcik of Barberton, Ann Christ of Akron, Susan O'Slovic of Hubbard and Helen Sabol of California. Three sisters and one brother preceded Ed in death.
Ed was a lifetime member of St. Patrick Church in Hubbard. He was in the Air Force and the Korean War from 1948-1952. Ed worked for General Electric Lamp Plant in Youngstown from 1963 until the closing of the plant in 1985. He was a past member of Hubbard Historical Society. Ed was a member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, Struthers Branch 156 and First Catholic Slovak Union 259.
He found retirement enjoyable and was an avid gas & steam engine and ham radio enthusiast. Ed was a member of Northwest Pennsylvania Steam Engine and Old Equipment Association.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, 9:30 AM at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home and at 10:00 at St. Patrick Church.
