Doris Van Horne's Obituary

HUBBARD Funeral services will be held Friday 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Dan Yargo officiating for Doris J. Van Horne, 73, who died Sunday morning June 3, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was born April 9, 1939 in Sharon, a daughter of Floyd P. and Alice Ewing Lynn and was a lifelong area resident.

Mrs. Van Horne was a 1957 graduate of Hubbard High School and received her Bachelor's of Education Degree at Kent State University in 1961. She pursued her career as an elementary school teacher in Michigan, Warren and Hubbard.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hubbard, the Susannah Wesley Class and taught both children and adults Sunday school classes. Doris was a lay leader for several years, lay speaker, prayer coordinator, treasurer and mission chairperson. She was one of the founders of GAP, Grandmothers at Prayer and was president of the Hubbard Christians in Action.

Doris was a member of the Trumbull Travelers Camping Group, swam everyday with the Early Bird Swimmers and was the first president of the Hubbard Swim Club. She was president of the Hubbard PTA, a member of the Candle Glow Support Group, was an avid bowler and loved camping with her family and friends.

She leaves her husband, William H. Van Horne, whom she married July 29, 1961; two sons, Curtis (Mary Jo) Van Horne of Wake Forest, NC and Keith (Pam) Van Horne of Wylie, TX; a brother, James (Vikki) Lynn of Erie, PA; six grandchildren, Sarah, Aaron, Matthew, Tiffany, Nathaniel and Rachel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Jon W. Van Horne and a step brother, Loren Lynn.

Family and friends may call on Thursday, 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home and also on Friday at the First United Methodist Church, one hour prior to the services from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.

Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 48 Church St., Hubbard, OH 44425.

Interment will take place at Hubbard Union Cemetery at a later date.
