HUBBARD Dominic S. Choppa, 89, died Tuesday evening, June 5, 2012 at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center. He was born May 27, 1923 in Hubbard, a son of Andrea and Rose Graziano Cioppa and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Choppa was a meter reader foreman for Ohio Edison for 40 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Patrick Church, working bingo and the church festivals, volunteered at the Hubbard Senior Citizen Center and delivered Meals on Wheels. Dominic served in the CCC Camp and with the U. S. Army in the 5th Division, 3rd Infantry Division during World War II and was the recipient of a Bronze Star and a combat infantry badge.
His wife, the former Elizabeth J. Ward, whom he married August 2, 1947, died March 6, 1999.
He leaves two sons, Joseph (Karen) Choppa of Millersville, PA and Dominic Choppa of Cleveland, OH; two daughters, Mary Choppa of Nashua, NH and Kathleen (Donald) Connors of Hubbard; three sisters, Louise (Jack) Blystone of Hermitage, Rose Mary Bosco of Hubbard and Theresa (Bill) Benden of Freehold, NJ; four sisters-in-law, Helen Choppa of Warren, Anne Murphy of Austintown, Julia Ward of Arlington Heights, IL and Margaret (George) Bailey of Temple, TX and three grandchildren, Donald, Genevieve and Gregory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Angelo and Louis Choppa and two sisters, Genevieve Mangan and Antoinette Riccitelli.
Funeral services will be held Friday 1:30 PM at St. Patrick Church with his nephew Msgr. Fr. Jay Clarke officiating.
Family and friends may call on Thursday 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home.
Interment will take place at Hubbard Union Cemetery.
