Domenic Lentini's Obituary

HUBBARD Domenic J. "Fuzzy" Lentini, 79, passed on November 14, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 15, 1931 in Youngstown, a son of Anthony and Anna Barber Lentini and was a lifelong area resident.

Domenic was a proud member of the U.S. Army enlisting in 1948 and re-enlisting in 1950 when the Korean War began, serving from 1950 to 1953. A highly decorated veteran, Domenic was awarded two purple hearts, the combat infantry badge and the medal of service. An active member of the Korean War Veterans Chapter 137, Domenic participated in laying of the roses, veteran's funerals and the unveiling of the Korean War stamp. In 2008, Domenic and his family made the pilgrimage to the Korean War Memorial in Washington DC. He later remarked that the giant granite soldiers looked "identical to his fellow foot soldiers" as they marched over the rough terrain some 50 years ago.

He was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hubbard. Domenic served on the Parish Council, taught Sunday CCD Classes and worked the parish festival, having won a blue ribbon for his homemade canned hot peppers.

Domenic was a proud member of the Hubbard Optimist Club, serving several times as president and holding various other offices.

Domenic worked for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company for 30 years and also 10 years for Gasser Chair Company. While he worked for Ohio Bell, Dom was involved in the Pioneer Club, helping visually challenged youth to play baseball with a beeper embedded in the baseball.

He was an avid gardener, known for producing delicious tomatoes and garlic from a garden he planted each year for 44 years. He loved making wine and cooking. Of all his favorite pastimes, he most enjoyed cheering for his grandsons' sporting events. Dominic will forever be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, loving demeanor and generous spirit.

Domenic leaves his wife of 47 years, the former Marian R. Mikan whom he married June 15, 1963; two daughters, Lisa (Bill) Marx of Hubbard and Diana (Randy) Winfrey of Fullerton, CA; his beloved grandsons, Dillon and Jeffrey Marx both of Hubbard; a brother, Thomas Lentini of Youngstown; three sisters, Mary Dillon of Hubbard, Antoinette "Dolly" DeGennaro of Milford Center, OH and Katherine Scaperotto of Poland and several nieces and nephews which were very special to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Theresa DeLisio and three brothers, Nicholas Marciano, John Marciano and Anthony Lentine.
