Obituary

HUBBARD Memorial services will be held Saturday 2:00 PM at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home for David W. Merrell Sr., 82, who died Wednesday morning January 30, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center. He was born February 22, 1930 in Bradford, PA a son of Henry C. and Mildred E. Drugg Merrell and moved to Hubbard in 1954, coming from Punxsutawney, PA.

Mr. Merrell worked for Powell Pressed Steel as a foreman for 18 years, retiring in 1982 and previously worked for Youngstown Sheet and Tube as a scarfer for 9 years. David was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War and a member of the Grace Lutheran Church.

David coached teams in both the Hubbard Little League and Pony Leagues, and also coached and played in the Hubbard Metro Fast Pitch League. He was an avid bowler, having bowled in many leagues at Bell Wick Bowl.

He leaves his wife, the former Joanne M. Shaffer, whom he married November 6, 1954; two sons, David W. (Phyllis Merrell Jr. of Aurora, CO and Kenneth W. Merrell of Hubbard; a brother, Richard (Audrey) Merrell of Dade City, FL; four sisters, Irene Rearick of Girard, Nellie Rutter of Phillipsburgh, PA, Karen Kepheart of Sanburg, PA and Jeannie (Chuck) Ritzie of Reynoldsville, PA and seven grandchildren.

David was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steven M. Merrell; five brothers, Henry C. Merrell Jr., Jack A. Merrell, Charles R. Merrell, Ray A. Merrell and a sister, Patricia E. Smeal.

Family and friends may call on Saturday one hour prior to the services from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home.
