LIBERTY Dr. James D. Goettsch, 55, of Liberty, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2005, at St. Joseph Hospital, Warren, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 21, 1949, in Cherokee, IA, a son of Herbert and Myrtle Dau Goettsch and lived in the area since 1986.
Dr. Goettsch graduated from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA, in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and received his Doctor of Osteopathy and Surgery Degree from the Kirksville Osteopathy Medical College in Kirksville, MO in 1975. His residency to receive a degree to become a Doctor of Radiology was served in Flint, MI. He moved to Liberty in 1986 to continue his special practice of radiology and became a partner with Warren Radiology.
He married Patricia Ann Shelton in Flint, MI, on April 29, 1978, and three children were born to this union. He encouraged his children and was proud of their accomplishments. His devoted family proved to him to be the spiritual, emotional support and strength he needed right up to the end of his life and before he entered into eternal peace with God.
Dr. Goettsch was an avid supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes and enjoyed sports and cars. He continued being a dedicated servant to his medical profession even during his illness by allowing himself to take part in several clinical trials seeing this as a way to help others afflicted with his disease.
He leaves his wife, Pati; a daughter, Brandi of Liberty; two sons, Ryan and David of Liberty; his parents, Herb and Myrt Goettsch of Holstein, IA; a brother, Dr. Gerald (Roletta) Goettsch of Bettendorf, IA; a nephew, Barry (Dr. Eva) Goettsch of Cherokee, IA and their children Bennett and Abigail; one niece, Nichelle (Elliott) Schiffman of Glenview, IL and their children Zachary and Madelyn; several aunts, uncles and cousins in Northwest Iowa and many friends and business associates.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the Bethel Friends Church, 2771 Spitler Rd. Poland, OH.
