HUBBARD: Clara R. (Melnick) D'Agati, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning August 7, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital with her loving family at her side. She was born November 22, 1925 in Youngstown, a daughter of Patsy and Jennie (DeMain) Appulese and was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. D'Agati, a graduate of East High School was head cashier for the Captain's Table at the Ramada Inn on Belmont Ave. for 15 years and previously worked for Sherwin Williams in Hubbard. Clara was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Hubbard, and also Blessed Sacrament Church in Warren. She was primarily a homemaker who loved caring for her family and especially raising her two sons. She greatly cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her first husband, Steve "Rocky" Melnick, whom she married in 1951, died in 1962. Her second husband, Sam D'Agati, whom she married in 1985, died in 2007.
She leaves two sons, Steve (Victoria) Melnick of St. Augustine, Florida, and Jeffrey (Pauli) Melnick of Hubbard; a brother, Dominic (Mary Ann) Appulese of Austintown; two sisters, Martha Bucci of Youngstown and Jean Caras of Girard; two grandchildren, Jeffrey (Erin) Melnick of Hubbard and Cori (Matt) Morrison of Warren; three great grandchildren, Luke, Lainey and Jaxon and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Patrick Appulese.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the caregivers at Humility House Assisted Living/Nursing Home in Austintown for the loving care they showed Clara during the last 5 years of her life. Also, thanks to the nursing staff on the 8th floor of St. Elizabeths Hospital, and to Hospice of the Valley, Youngstown, for their care and compassion in easing Mom's passing.
Family and friends may call on Sunday 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home and a mass of Christian burial will be held from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Hubbard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Interment will be at Hubbard Union Cemetery.
