BURGHILL Calvin Richard "Rick" Wells, 57, formerly of Hubbard died Thursday evening October 11, 2012 at his home. He was born October 28, 1954 in Youngstown, a son of Jesse Calvin and Ida Mae Heckathorne Wells and was a lifelong Hubbard resident until his retirement when he moved to Burghill.

Rick was a member of Coalburg United Methodist Church and a 1973 graduate of Hubbard High School, having played football and baseball and served with the United States Air Force. He began his career as a Trumbull County Sheriff, then came to the Hubbard Township Police Department as a patrolman in 1978 where he was one of the first group of 6 to be sworn into duty. He served as the Police Chief for the Hubbard Township Police Department from 1991 to 1995 and retired June 1st 2006. Rick was a member of the Hubbard FOP and the Chiefs Association.

Rick was passionate about the game of baseball and softball and had a special love for children, he along with his brother Ray coached many kids over the years. He coached Youngstown Class B League 17-18 year olds, Hubbard AC in the Colt League, coached boys baseball at Girard High School and Liberty High School, was the JV Assistant for girls fast pitch at Hubbard High School taking them to the regional championship. Rick was currently an umpire with the Trumbull County Umpires Association in the OHSSA and coaching the Ohio Reign girls softball team.

Rick enjoyed spending time watching his girls in the 4-H and barrel racing and was a former member of the Hubbard Gridiron Club.

He leaves his biological mother, Anna Belle Daye of Mercer, PA; his wife, the former Tammy Lynn Blazak, whom he married July 18, 1981; three daughters, Ashley J. Wells of Burton, Kylie M. Wells and Courtney L. Wells both at home; a brother, Raymond W. (Barbara) Wells of Hubbard; a sister, Stella A. Kalic Capestro of Grants Pass, OR; three half brothers, Randy (Stacy) Daye of Mercer, Rodney (Theresa) Daye of Mercer and Ryan Daye of Grove City; two half sisters, Linda Kellner of Hermitage and Stella (Stanley) Bell of Mercer; a sister-in-law, Dody Wells and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William Rodney Wells and a half brother, Ray Daye.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday 11:00 AM at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home

Interment will be at Hubbard Union Cemetery.
