HUBBARD Atty. Mary Jane "Janie" Stephens, 66, of Hubbard, died on Monday evening, February 11, 2008 at Sharon Regional Health System. She was born on September 17, 1941, in Youngstown, a daughter of Richard A. and Mary Ellen Morris Stephens and was a lifelong Hubbard resident.

Atty. Stephens was a partner in the Ingram and Ingram Law Offices in Youngstown and was a practicing attorney for over 20 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hubbard and a 1959 graduate of Hubbard High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English at Youngstown State University in 1963 and formerly taught at Liberty High School, East Palestine High School and in Olean, NY. Janie was a member of Animal Charity and on their Board of Directors for 40 years. She obtained her Juris Doctorate in November in 1983 from the University of Akron School of Law and was a member of the Mahoning County and Trumbull County Bar Associations. She was admitted to practice in the United States District Court, the Supreme Court of Ohio and the Court of Appeals. Janie was the co-recipient of the Mahoning County Bar Association Lawyer of the year 1992-1993 and listed in Best Lawyers in America in 2007 in the Speciality of Family Law.

She leaves two sisters, Nora Lea (Steve) Garay of Hermitage, PA and Judy (Peter) Stephens-Lorenz of Ravenna, OH; a nephew, Stephen R. (Suzie) Garay of Hermitage, PA and two great-nephews, Andrew and Jason Garay , both of Hermitage, PA.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home in Hubbard.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
