Obituary


HUBBARD Anthony T. "Tee" Ponzio, 91, died Sunday afternoon March 17, 2013 at his home. He was born September 6, 1921 in Youngstown, a son of Mario E. and Sofia DeAscentis Ponzio and moved to Hubbard in 1947.

Mr. Ponzio, a graduate of East High School and Youngstown College, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hubbard for over 60 years where he sang in the choir. Tony served with the United States Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946.

Tony was an IRS enforcement agent for 21 years. He was a high school teacher in Cortland for 3 years, was a truck dealership bookkeeper for Yourga GMC Agency and was the Hubbard school board treasurer from 1975 to 1985. Tony was also a floral delivery truck driver for Hulbert Florist and parking lot attendant at Kelley-Robb Funeral Home.

He was a member of the Sulgrave Lodge No. 696 F & A. M. , the Hubbard American Legion Post No. 51 and the Hubbard Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post No. 3767. Tony was a member of the Hubbard Kiwanis Club since 1965 having been a past President and Treasurer and also a member of the Hubbard Community Fund for over 50 years.

Tony enjoyed golfing, traveling with his wife Helen, having visited 48 of the 50 states, and especially spending time with his family. He played the saxophone and clarinet and was in the band the Ambassadors of Swing for 30 years.

His wife, the former Helen C. Christoff, whom he married June 28, 1945, died March 9, 2007.

Tony leaves a son, Alan A. (Debbi) Ponzio of Maumee, OH; a daughter, Phyllis D. (Arthur) Kourian of Hubbard; five grandchildren, Courtney (Geoff) Helmlinger, Elizabeth (Brent) Borgelt, Amanda (Shawn) Marcello, Katherine Ponzio and Sarah Kourian; seven great grandchildren, Adam and Abby Ponzio, Avery and Ashton Borgelt, Shawn and Alyssa Marcello and Addison Helmlinger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Vincent M. Ponzio and Carl K. Ponzio; two sisters, Josephine Caputo and Dora Moretti.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Ray and Julie for all their warm and compassionate care to Tony for the past two years.

Funeral services will be held Thursday 10:30 AM at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to First Presbyterian Church, 22 Westview Ave., Hubbard, OH 44425 or the Hubbard Community Fund, P.O. Box 111, Hubbard, OH 44425.

Interment will be at Hubbard Union Cemetery.
